Our Efforts In 2020

  • Attended White Township Supervisor Meetings, along with Township Planning meetings

  • Met with person hired to work in WWNC, Mike Lawer

  • Enlisted support of expert scientists: ecology, forestry,

  • Conducted numerous interviews with radio and print media, including WCCS, Indiana Gazette, Hawk Eye

  • Monitored the letters to the editor in the Gazette

  • Contacted DCNR 

  • Developed a monthly FWW newsletter

  • Contacted community groups

  • Secured legal counsel

  • Filed a legal complaint asserting violation of the Sunshine Act and the Second Class Township Code

  • Sent mailing to over 1,000 households that border WWNC

  • Created and distributed yard signs.

  • Hired a consulting forester to review the Millstone plan and provide guidance for WWNC

  • Distributed promotional and educational materials

  • Prepared a 255-page response to the Millstone Plan and submitted copies to the Township and to DCNR.

  • Engaged consultant forester Mike Wolf of Appalachian Foresters to make a presentation at a White Township Supervisors meeting

  • Contacted the Pennsylvania Parks & Forests Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, The Natural Areas Association, and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy for information and guidance.

  • Submitted a grant request to the Indiana County Endowment.

  • Sponsored a Zoom seminar featuring Allegheny Goatscape, regarding the use of goats to control invasive plants (the first in a Zoom seminar series)
